Alexander Sergeevich Krivonos was born on , in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) into a military family, spending his childhood moving between Kazakhstan, the Moscow region, and Belarus. At age 17, he returned to Leningrad to study at the LHU im. Serova and served in the Soviet army from 1984 to 1986. He later entered the I.E. Repin Institute of Fine Arts in 1993, graduating from the monumental painting workshop under the guidance of Academician A.A. Mylnikov.
